I make art for the same reason anyone else does—because doing so gives me pleasure.

I really have no fucking idea. Someday I might, and so I keep making stuff. In all honesty, I’ve never asked myself this question. It just happens…

someone's birthday and everybody got drunk

This is the image to go with my quote. It’s me, in the underwear and standing on a child’s beach chair. All I remember about the photo is that it was someone’s birthday and everybody got drunk. It was 1967 or so. I was around 5 years old. I was always in my underwear and frequently naked. Anyway, it seems to go with my “Why Art?” response. Not much has changed in me since that photo was taken, except everybody that was at that party are now dead. Even the little girl.

I have no idea who the photographer was, but I’m sure they’re dead too.

ART is the physical realization of human emotion. It is a deeply personal and selfish endeavor.

I make art because Roy Orbison started a conversation with me twenty years ago and I want to be part of the discussion…to connect with a world bigger than my bedroom but as intimate as a late night car ride home.

It is my oxygen. It is who I am. And it makes people smile…we need more of that.
